Yunze Xiao

Profile

Yunze (Lorenzo) Xiao is an incoming master's student in the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where he is advised by Prof. Kemal Oflazer and works closely with Prof. Mona Diab. He earned his bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, under the guidance of Prof. Houda Bouamor. Lorenzo's research interests lie at the intersection of Computational Social Science, Human-Computer Interaction, and Natural Language Processing. He focuses on emerging online languages, offensive language detection, LLM-based personality and roleplay agents, LLM personalization, and computational ethics. His work aims to develop authentic AI companions as potential solutions to global loneliness and social disconnection. Lorenzo has gained diverse research experience, including internships at the Qatar Computing Research Institute with Dr. Firoj Alam, the Singapore University of Technology and Design with Prof. Roy Ka-Wei Lee, and Microsoft Research Asia with Dr. Xiaoyuan Yi. He is also the founder of Cranberry Lemon Research, a non-profit organization, and is actively organizing the PersonaNLP workshop at ICML 2025.
